A good eye for a horse   Written by Barbara (9/13/2009 5:53 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Thank you!, penned by Elbč
Are you new?

Your idea that Colonel Brandon may have had too good of an eye for a horse to be persuaded to buy the mare could also be part of it. We know that Willoughby is very involved with his horses. His intended gift of a horse to Marianne was a horse "he had bred himself on his estate in Somersetshire, and which was exactly calculated to carry a woman."

So, Colonel Brandon's refusal to buy one of Willoughby's horses could have affronted him on more than one level--financial need, and also as a horse breeder.
