Nice evaluation   Written by CarolTS (9/12/2009 6:31 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Totally bogus!, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

Thank you for putting your thoughts into clicking keys for the rest of us! I don't think I've ever stopped to evaluate point by point the discussion before - I usually just roll my eyes at the two of them!

To me - this conversation is Marianne parroting Willoughby. The things she's held against him in the past (his advancing age and his physical ailments that cause him to wear the unfortunate flannel) are not mentioned here. Willoughby seems to have more against him than Marianne has ever considered and that's just inflamed her words. So their relationship seems to work both ways. Unfortunately Marianne's influence is about things good for him (works of art he was unfamiliar with or the like) while his seems to be detrimental to her character - causing her to put down a man who is respected in the neighborhood.
