Perhaps he is parroting Marianne again?   Written by kathleen (elder) (9/12/2009 4:58 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, What is Willoughby's Problem Anyway? (Ch 10), penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

He managed to catch all of her enthusiasms within a very short time. Marianne may have expressed her opinion of the Colonel (& especially the gossipy innuendo about her & Col Brandon) in Willoughby's presence, and Willoughby gathered he would be well-advised to criticize Brandon in a similar fashion.

It also seems like Willoughby & Marianne encourage each other to make sillier comments: why is Marianne contemptuous of Col Brandon's knowledge, assume that he has no taste, and why does she not believe that Elinor has good reasons to admire him; why does Willoughby say that nobody cares about Brandon, or criticize him for not spending all of his money? They sound like children determined to find fault even if they must resort to bogus reasons! :-)
