I agree, he seems to be perfect   Written by Martina C (9/12/2009 9:10 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Exactly formed to engage Marianne's heart? (long), penned by Robbin
Are you new?

Willoughby certainly makes a memorable entry into chapter 9 and seems to be the perfect man for Marianne. As you pointed out, he is just what she described to Elinor as her ideal man. When I first read S&S I could see how perfect they were for each other as they both seemed to share the same tastes and likes but on further readings I noticed the little hints JA gives us that maybe Willoughby is not as perfect as we may think for Marianne.

As both you and Barbara pointed out he seems to agree too quickly with everything that Marianne says and their shared tastes seem too similar as if he is agreeing with everything she says whether he knows anything about it or not. He seems to me to be too enthusiastic but maybe that is just because the other single men we have seen so far are Edward and Col. Brandon who are more reserved and quiet in their attentions to the Dashwoods.
