Hunting and Shooting Written by Myretta (9/11/2009 11:57 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, "Sport" vs "hunting", penned by Heather Leigh

Hunting involves horses, dogs and a fox. Although it does not involve a gun. Shooting involves birds and a gun and is done on foot. The term "sport" is more generic.

Although there are no scenes of hunting in Jane Austen, it is discussed in Mansfield Park. Shooting occurs (although offstage) in Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion and Mansfield Park. There is no deer stalking either in fact or discussion in Jane Austen.
