I'm sure you're right about Mrs Dashwood's background.   Written by Anselm (9/11/2009 4:50 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Age and upbringing, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

Doesn't it sound very much like...

...Miss Maria Ward, of Huntingdon, [who] with only seven thousand pounds, had the good luck to captivate Sir Thomas Bertram, of Mansfield Park, in the county of Northampton, and to be thereby raised to the rank of a baronet’s lady, with all the comforts and consequences of an handsome house and large income.

Take away the baronet, add "and indulgence of her sensibilities" to her "comforts and consequences", and you arrive at someone not a million miles away from Mrs D, methinks!
