Some more thoughts   Written by MarianneR (9/10/2009 4:48 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Marianne and the language of absolutes, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

There is another example I found in the conversation between Marianne and her mother. Marianne says that "...with me a flannel waistcoat is invariably connected with the aches, cramps, rheumatisms, and every species of ailment that can afflict the old and the feeble."

But what startles me even more is her opinion on marriage between a 35-year old bachelor and a 27-year old woman:"In my eyes it would be no marriage at all... To me it would seem only a commercial exchange, in which each wished to be benefited at the expense of the other." If I had been in Mrs. Dashwoods situation I would have liked to shake her! Doesn´t she realise that this must be an insult to her own mother? How could she develope such arrogance?
