I've always thought it meant she was decrying him for not paying attention, but then didn't pay attention well enough herself to recognize that the song she was requesting had already been played!

As for the want of taste remark, I always take this as the narrator sliding into Marianne's point of view, and obviously if they don't like what she likes, they have no taste!
