If the Colonel had been more animated in his response...   Written by janelt (9/9/2009 11:48 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Interesting points about Marianne and the colonel, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

...to her playing, I daresay Marianne (being such a young woman) would've been uncomfortable at the vocal attention from such an old stranger whom she'd just met. She might've been in some danger, much to the amusement of one Mrs Jennings :-)

I wonder how the situation would've been different had there been single gentlemen closer to Marianne's age paying rapturous attention to her musical skills. What would Marianne's first impressions of them be? Would she form quick opinions of them too, as she seemed to have been doing quite a bit regarding CB.

And how would CB react if there were other younger gentlemen in the room? Would he still be paying attention to Marianne's playing? Would he still stay put where he was, as there was no danger for either one of them (he was simply enjoying the music)? Or would he get up and leave the young people to themselves, and join his own age group? Hmm...
