Were relatives sent bereavement notices?   Written by janelt (9/9/2009 11:36 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Near Relations and far :-), penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

I'm not familiar with the time period, but I wonder if all relatives far and near were sent bereavement notices. I suspect that might be how Sir John came to know that Mrs Dashwood was soon to be homeless. Either that or perhaps he read the obituary in the newspaper? As good fortune would have it, he happened to have a cottage for rent, and it would bring family members closer to one another. It was a win-win.
