As an amateur musician myself...   Written by Cathy Allen (9/9/2009 5:19 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Colonel, comfortable in his own flannel., penned by janelt
Are you new?

I think that Col. B. paid Marianne a lovely compliment: "He paid her only the compliment of attention..." I can think of few ways that would compliment me more in a performance than having someone pay attention. I know Marianne didn't see it that way, but I like this guy!

And I agree with Barbara that it is quite similar to how Edward treated Elinor: "He admires as a lover, not as a connoisseur." In my other life, as an artist, once again, I can not think of a nicer compliment to my work! I like THIS guy, too!
