Good analysis!   Written by Rachel G (9/9/2009 3:01 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Addictive cycle of self indulgence and pride, penned by Karen G
Are you new?

My "Missing something..?" post was a rather tongue-in-cheek response to Anselm. I stand by it's substance because I am convinced that Fanny is the dominant character in the relationship. However, describing John Dashwood a a wimp was somewhat irrelevant to the point being discussed - John doesn't really want to oppose Fanny's persuasion.

Your analysis of how Fanny operates makes a lot of sense. In effect she is manipulating him by giving him permission to do what he really wants and be 'true to himself' - ie cold-hearted and selfish. No wonder he is "very fond of her"!
