I had a similar image   Written by BarbaraB (9/9/2009 10:47 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chawton cottage., penned by Reeba
Are you new?

I thought of Barton Cottage as being something between the rustic and elegant also. I wondered about other JA cottages in her novels. I remembered that Charles and Mary lived in one and checked its description. * "...but upon the marriage of the young 'squire, it had received the improvement of a farm-house elevated into a cottage for his residence; and Uppercross Cottage, with its veranda, French windows and other prettinesses...". This would seem to fit the idea of betwixt and between.

* Mention of Persuasion was only for further information of cottages.
