Such funnies!   Written by Barb JA (9/9/2009 7:42 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Elinor teases Marianne, penned by nan duval
Are you new?

I think it's funny too how Marianne thinks she has the one-up on Elinor in that conversation.

Elinor:
"...but he has an innate propriety and simplicity of taste, which in general direct him perfectly right."

Mariannne's thoughts:
was very far from that rapturous delight, which, in her opinion, could alone be called taste. Yet, though smiling within herself at the mistake, she honoured her sister for that blind partiality to Edward which produced it.

and then right after Elinor says "express yourself more warmly"
Marianne's thoughts:
Marianne was rejoiced to find her sister so easily pleased.

That quote from Chapter 8 is the funniest so far in the novel to me, and it's so true. Elinor understands her sister very well, but Marianne doesn't seem to get that she's being teased.

One has to wonder too, what exactly "rapturous delight" looks like. I think it might bring on some eye rolling by everyone else in the room.
