I think it would make sense from a social standpoint that Margaret and Marianne share a bedroom as they are the two younger children. Elinor having rank would get a bedroom to herself.

It is possible Marianne and Elinor shared a room because they were closer as friends and both out. However, I am trying not to be swayed by the adaptations and reason this through as impartially as possible.
