The poem you posted enriches and adds depth to this scene. It highlights the fact that Marianne's 'goodbye' is scripted from things she has read. The irony comes from the fact that she prides herself on spontaneous emotions and feelings when in fact her actions follow a prescribed or predetermined way of responding to situations.

Her question of 'who will be left to enjoy it all' does, however underscore a real sadness when I think about it. The Dashwoods did not view Norland as merely property but a real family home. Who knows what its plight will be now that the cold-hearted John Dashwoods own it.
