What Edward's mother and sister want him to be is a London cityboy in a position of power, earning a good salary as a man of distinction, driving a fancy carriage. Poor Edward, what a disappointment he is to his mother and sister!

Barouches had a collapsible half-hood which folded over the back seat (I'm seeing a sports car parallel here!) Apparently, they were wonderful summer vehicles, perfect for romantic drives exploring the countryside.
