What does Jane have against barouches? :-)   Written by Heather Leigh (9/7/2009 11:00 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Edward in a barouche, penned by Carol J.

This line about how his sister doesn't care what work he does as long as he drives a barouche reminds me of the more extended running joke in Emma, of Mrs Elton repeatedly dropping references to her brother-in-law and his barouche landau. This must have been a favorite vehicle for the showy nouveau riche!
