Sense Conquers All   Written by RobinJ (9/7/2009 7:22 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Elinor and Marianne: not so very different, penned by Elizabeth K

My guess is that Jane Austen comes down firmly on the side of sense in this novel. Control is the worthy quality and a character's worthiness is measured by the degree to which they can restrain themselves. The chacters that show no restraint (as we will come to see), are flawed.

Restraint is an interesting emotion in so many ways, isn't it? After all, it heightens the suspense of courtship, as well :-)
