I had never thought of Sir John and Henry as contrasting the opposite sides of John's insensitivity and hard-heartedness! Those passages show what a person who really wants to help looks like in comparison to someone who just claims he does.

Everythign Henry purposed in his heart (supposedly) to do, Sir John actually did.
