As a brother or son   Written by Nina RG (9/7/2009 8:44 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ch 3: What is love?, penned by janelt
Are you new?

I think Mrs Dashwood and Marianne are showing Elinor that they know what she and Edward feel about each other, and that they would like to welcome Edward into the family. Mrs Dashwood loves Edward as a son(-in-law) and Marianne as a brother(-in-law). As their emotions can have "no moderations" they don't just like Edward, they love him. At least that is how I see it.
