Great Post, Elbe (Elinor's Control)   Written by BarbaraB (9/7/2009 12:29 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sense or sensibility, penned by Elbč
Are you new?

I was thinking about something similar but along a different vein. I admire Elinor as do most people but I think the question begs to be asked: Does Elinor govern and control her feelings to excess the same way Marianne exerts her feelings to excess? Elinor is still very young, only nineteen, and it must take a superhuman effort of keeping her own feelings in check to balance the constant emotional outpourings of three other people, not to mention some of the people she meets who test her patience. Can this be good for her? I will be watching closely to see if she allows herself any outlets, to just take time to catch a calming breath or even to just let her feelings flow, not in a rude or unthinking manner, but in a way that gives her some release without public embarrassment.
