Fanny amazes me; I thought I was queen of the rationalizers! Written by Cathy Allen (9/6/2009 11:03 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is Ch.2 for real?, penned by Anselm

My first experience of Fanny's ability to rationalize away her husband's committment to take care of his sisters was watching S&S 2, and I was utterly amazed. Now, in my first reading of S&S, I'm, once again, simply delighted with JA's writing. How clearly Fanny shows her true colors, all the while pretending to be concerned for her son. What a witch; magnificent!

I, too, am of the opinion that the rationalization conversation/s took place over several hours, or even days.
