As a first time S&S reader,   Written by Cathy Allen (9/6/2009 2:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chapter 1: The Dashwood Sisters, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

I was a little surprised to read JA's descriptions of the sisters. I've seen (and in fact, own, all 3 movie adaptations) but have never read S&S before. The adaptations, IMO, show the sisters as, clearly, Elinor equals "Sense," and Marianne equals "Sensibility." I was surprised and pleased to see that for JA it's not quite so precisely cut and dried.

I REALLY would have preferred to have read JA before watching other people's adaptations of her work. I know it is necessary to make changes, because of the differences in media, but reading JA is SO superior, it is hard to say enough good about her writing. (But you all know that, of course, that's why we're all here!) A little late to the party, but better late than never!

I'm enjoying this GR, thank you all!
