Rumored death of annuity recipient... Written by nan duval (9/6/2009 1:24 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Fanny Dashwood -- amateur actuary :-), penned by kathleen (elder)

"then one of them was said to have died, and afterwards it turned out to be no such thing." I can see Mrs. Ferrars doing her little miser dance on hearing of the death, making no effort to find out if it was true, (of course, sending no condolences to the bereaved), then muttering well-bred curses on finding out the mistake, & likely having to pay the back benefits.
