The family tree   Written by Carol J. (9/5/2009 9:27 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Chapter 1: We meet the Dashwoods, part 1, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

This whole situation with the inheritance came about because Uncle Dashwood had no other heirs. My first thought was to assume that nephew Henry Dashwood was the son of Uncle Dashwood's deceased sister and that she had been widowed. But that can't be, because then Henry's name would not be Dashwood; he would have his own father's name.

So Uncle Dashwood and his sister must have had a brother who was the father of Henry and who predeceased his siblings.
