Mrs. Dashwood might   Written by nan duval (9/5/2009 8:03 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Bad Relations, penned by Robbin

have contributed to Fanny's lack of warmth toward herself & daughters by her supposed lack of tact in past dealings, but the samples of Fanny's behavior that we get appear to me to justify Mrs Dashwood's opinion. Indeed, Chapter 2 (one of my favorite passages)provides such an illustration of heartless connivance that I think it would be very difficult to retain any confidence in Fanny's humanity after it.

The chapter also reminds me, in reverse, of Genesis chapter 18, where Abraham is trying to haggle with God to convince God not to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah. (I insert this not for a religious reason but as another literary example of similar bargaining). It's the reverse because Abraham is trying to save people & Fanny is arguing her husband out of his duty to assist his sisters.
