Wondering about inflation.   Written by nan duval (9/5/2009 7:43 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Inheriting Norland, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

I was wondering if inflation was at all a factor in the Regency period as it is now. I have elderly relatives who don't go shopping or if so not much, & think in terms of the prices of 20-30 years ago when a nickel was "something". After ten years of being looked after by Henry Dashwood & his wife & daughters, old Mr Dashwood might think that a thousand pounds would go farther than it actually would. Maybe I'm just trying to make him seem a little less ungrateful for their constant care of ten years.
