The only way to secure Norland Park to the Dashwood family was to bequeathe it to the only son. I think the real dilemma is Mr. Henry Dashwood´s early death. Had he lived longer, as Julie W pointed out in her post mentioned above, he could have done something to enlarge the income of his wife and daughters.

Well, thinking of it, he should have done that anyway. Wasn´t he realistic enough? A dreamer? Whom did Elinor´s sense come from? So many questions - oh I do look forward to all your thoughts!
