But what I find particularly sickening about this scene (at the end of chapt. 10) is, here is the man who has already ruined Col. B's ward, and he blithely insults him. Then, when Marianne takes up the cry, instead of just changing the subject and having done with it, he charges on, knowing that the enthralled Marianne will continue to do the same. And he finally, cuts Elinor off with "you cannot deny me the privilege of disliking him as much as ever," spoken as if in jest.

But it's not.

Very sinister stuff, now that we Know All about the situation...
