I believe you are misquoting me:)   Written by Pennie (10/18/2006 11:52 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Brandon's Advocate, penned by James S.
Are you new?

You say

As Pennie shrewdly points out, CB does not have a conversation with the lady.

In fact, I said:
I think it's interesting that we don't see him talk to Marianne in these chapters at all. Have we seen him talk to Marianne in the novel at all?

In that week's chapters, and I don't think at any point in the novel up to now, we have seen written dialogue between them. That doesn't mean that they don't talk. In all her novels, JA uses dialogue extremely sparingly. She only uses it where it will give greater insight into events or characters. She leaves out the mundane chit chat.

Marianne has probably had mild forms of conversation with him at the very least, and CB has probably overheard her have conversations with others, and participated in group conversations with him. How else would he know of her disinclination against 2nd attachments?

I have no textual evidence for this of course, but I'm making the assumption that there is more dialogue happening in the action of the novel than JA reports, because otherwise her characters would be speaking for 10 minutes every week on average.
