Exeter Exchange....(from L&T).   Written by Mandy N (10/18/2006 1:46 p.m.)
Are you new?

In ch. 33 at Gray's John Dashwood commments he had wished to call on his sisters the day before 'but it was impossible, for we were obliged to take Harry to see the wild beasts at the Exeter Exchange.'

The Exeter exchange was an indoor zoo located near the Strand in central London.

Below is an extensive L&T post with info. and pictures showing an engraving of the building, poster and a drawing of a sad incident involving one of the wild beasts.

I would've thought Fanny would prefer to visit Mrs Ferras while John took Harry.
Yet, I imagine it was a great novelty for fashionable people to visit the Exeter Exchange.

Exeter Exchange.
