I agree that Lucy wouldn't want to give Elinor a sniff of a chance!

But also, I think the nature of the revelation of the secret - coming all of a sudden from her sister, and giving Lucy no time to properly plan for it - probably took her as much by surprise as everyone else. She probably needed some time to collect her thoughts and begin plotting how to turn the situation to her advantage. Breaking off the engagement instantly would not allow her that time, so she continues it, to allow some breathing space while she plans her next move.
