Clerical not medical   Written by Deborah d'Bajor (10/17/2006 7:34 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Huswife; continuing the engagement; what sort of Doctor?, penned by Tom P2
Are you new?

I don't think the title Doctor was used for the medical profession in JAs time. There is certainly another cleric with the title though - Dr Grant in MP. Not sure what one had to do to gain this title over other clergymen?

I suppose Lucy has nothing to lose by maintaining her engagement. Edward does have an income - however small, and she might expect something from her father and/or uncle? would a man in his right senses offer for her? ;-)
