Huswife; continuing the engagement; what sort of Doctor?   Written by Tom P2 (10/16/2006 6:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I just love Miss Steele, penned by Kara M
Are you new?

The huswife could well be the needle book Fanny gave her in ch36.

If we presume that Lucy is completely cold and calculating, we can work out her strategy in continuing the engagement. What does she have to gain or lose? (I won't even try to answer that, though, because of the danger of giving a spoiler. But if this is your first reading of S&S, then pray speculate aloud!)

Is Dr Davies supposed to be a doctor of medicine or of divinity? I've always assumed the former, but can't think of any other examples of Dr as a medical title in JA's novels, or in Dickens's for that matter.
