That is a very good point and it does show how very reluctant he is to have all of this secret get out. He has never set Mrs. Jennings straight about ElizaII not actually being his natural daughter. I agree that Mrs. Jennings is unlikely to know who her mother was. It is one thing for Colonel Brandon to have an illegitmate child. It's on quite another level of scandal if it were known that this child's mother was his sister-in-law! Having an adulterous affair with his brother's wife is a more serious breach of propriety than what Mrs. Jennings supposes.
