I'm with Elinor   Written by Tracy W (10/13/2006 12:04 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, 'Unavoidable meeting'...., penned by Mandy N
Are you new?

I'm with Elinor - the whole thing seems to be pointless. There's no benefit to Eliza, and both Willoughby and Colonel Brandon risked injury or death (given medical care of the time, any injury had a reasonble chance of getting infected and killing the recipient).

And since it wasn't public it can't even be defended on the grounds of harming Willoughy's reputation.

The duel lowers my opinion of Colonel Brandon, who in other ways is a remarkable man.
