You are so right, that for a man who had been so calm and collected every other time they were together, this is quite a departure, and an affecting one. What a good idea, that Marianne should have seen this!! She would have had a hard time finding him wanting after that, wouldn't she!

It must have been very difficult to find himself in love with a woman who hardly said two words to him, and what a difficult position he was in, as you say, not knowing if he should reveal the truth to Marianne.

*sigh* What a scene...
