interesting, the way you put it.

Lets consider the other side now :)

Elinor *trying* to find an opportunity to *talk* to Lucy so that she could know more.

The way Elinor gets out of joining the others at the card table so that *she could help Lucy make the basket for Anna Marie* =:O, a child she doesn't even pretend to like - deserves an oscar too IMO :D

Lucy wants to talk to Elinor, she is most probably wary of her, and is curious.

Elinor wants to talk to Lucy because she is curious too.

I find both behaving in the same way here. :)
