Edward never took Elinore to tour the house he is to inheirit like Willoughby did with Marianne.

We know later that the lock of hair cannot be Elinor's (despite what Marianne may think). Unlike W and M who did the exchange with Margret in the room.

I think that Elinor is justified in thinking better of Edward than Willoughby because as Heidi M. says
while Elinor might be teased about Edward, Marianne is thought to be outright engaged from Willoughby's treatment of her
