A lavender water clue from Mr Tilney   Written by Tom P2 (10/10/2006 4:42 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Home remedies, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

Northanger Abbey ch10> "But in dancing, their duties are exactly changed; the agreeableness, the compliance are expected from him, while she furnishes the fan and the lavender water."

So yes, it seems like ladies routinely carried a supply of lavender water about their persons.

I imagine that in a hot stuffy room, it would do some good with a refreshing smell, and as a ladylike alternative to sweat when sprinkled onto the skin.

As for the wine, alcohol dilates the blood vessels, which according to a quick web search is also how some anti-depressant and anti-hypertensive drugs work. So it could give short-term relief for some sorts of headache, but would aggravate a dizzy faintness. Perhaps JA meant something specific and different by "a general nervous faintness", e.g. a feeling of weakness?
