This is definitely a question worth pondering and considering throughout the group read as we observe the various relationships. Fanny and John are awful people in my opinion but are each happy with himself/herself as far as I can tell. So I guess it is nothing for them to 'love' in someone else the things that they are happy with in themselves. The other couples mentioned in this thread are mostly different in temperament and personality whereas Fanny and John are equally awful so to speak and thereby get along---a couple with a harmoniously awful point of view who will be there for each other if one makes a falsestep toward goodness!
