Being or seeming? Written by Barbara (10/7/2006 2:05 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, How Lucy attracted Edward in the first place, penned by Tom P2

The sentence is loaded with 'outs': "perhaps robbed", "might once have been".

I'm not at all convinced that Elinor thought Lucy actually was less artful at that time--only that she might have seemed so to Edward.
