In my probably doomed campaign to rehabilitate Lady Middleton... Written by Rae (10/6/2006 3:17 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lady Middleton & Charlotte Palmer (chapters 17 to 25), penned by Robbin

I would suggest that some of her 'coldness' and reserve may be a reaction to her talkative and irritating, though undoubtedly good natured, sister. I think if Elinor had Mrs Palmer as a sister, her natural reserve might harden into 'coldness'.
