Hurrying off to Exeter?   Written by Line (10/5/2006 7:33 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, It was very uncanny to say the least, penned by Heidi M.
Are you new?

The only trouble is, how could Lucy "hurry off to Exeter"? I don't doubt that she would if she could, but in those days respectable young ladies had to have someone suitable accompany them whenever they travelled, and if no one was available or willing, they were forced to stay where they were. Think of Fanny in MP. Would Lucy's older sister qualify as a suitable chaperone, even though she was unmarried herself? Also, how far is Exeter from Longstaple? Would they risk taking the stagecoach alone for that distance, and then refrain from telling anyone about it?
