I have always wondered this too, why Elinor was convinced the hair was hers. The only thing I don't understand is James-Cavan's view of Elinor's vanity, because she seemed such a person void of vanity, because she was always being, or put in a position to be, such a practical person. Very interesting to see the poem too.
