Types of SUTH; the risk of telling Elinor; outstanding grammar   Written by Tom P2 (10/4/2006 11:01 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, A SUTH for Lucy, penned by Pennie
Are you new?

This would be a different flavour of SUTH from what Edmund and Marianne get? More vengeful than corrective?

I was poised to say something along the lines of "Oh Elinor, why didn't you just stall, think it over, and then not promise secrecy?" But Elinor's promise of secrecy seems to be based on some guiding principle, not a mistake in the heat of the moment. It fits well with Lucy being a ruthless schemer: she thinks over what she already knows of Elinor, and isn't taking much of a risk.

The Steeles' grammar is so much worse than anyone else's, that we can be pretty sure it was deliberate on JA's part.
