and pleased to see him so at ease, when Edward "stooped" to tease Marianne so playfully?

"Shall I tell you my guess?"... "Well then, I guess that Mr Willoughby hunts."

Even Marianne, though she's confused,is charmed by Edward's quiet archness.
And only after seeing her reaction does he realize that there is more to this than a mere joking matter.
