Very very interesting, Mandy :)   Written by Reeba (9/30/2006 3:15 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Focus: Romantic Movement; 'Pleasure Grounds' & Picturesque., penned by Mandy N
Are you new?

Somehow I get the feeling that Edward's views were perhaps closer to JA's on no other grounds but that his views have been expressed rather matter of factly.

Edward seems to be very fond of being 'snug'. Till now he has used the word twice.
I don't know if this word was part of the 'pictureque'.

".... and the valley looks comfortable and snug -- with rich meadows and several neat farm houses scattered here and there...."

" I have more pleasure in a snug farm-house ..."

Do I see an old twisted tree in the first painting? ;)

I find Edward quite witty and amusing here. The following are very LOL worthy.

"I shall call hills steep, which ought to be bold ! surfaces strange and uncouth which ought to be irregular and rugged; and distant objects out of sight which ought only to be indistinct through the soft medium of a hazy atmosphere...."

Thanks Mandy.
