You have beautifully summarized Marieanne's feelings of Willoughby's loss.
JA's passages do bring feelings of depression close so the reader.
Yet 'courting grief' may express exaggerated sentiments or a mercurial temperment.

Marieanne felt sure the man on horseback was Willloughby, then felt immediately glad to see Edward. To her credit, she was happy for her sister and showed Edward great warmth of regard.
